There were in total six PhD studentships (fully funded, 3 or 4 years) and several traineeships (3-6 months) at the three institutes. All PhD studentships and traineeships are now filled. . The training was in observational or theoretical solar physics or associated subjects, like astronomical instrumentation technology.
In short, the positions are open to students from the European Union member states and Associated states - but there is room for exceptions from this. Candidates cannot be nationals of the host country, e.g. Swedish citizens cannot apply to the positions in Stockholm but to those in Oslo or Utrecht. Nor can they have been active for more than one year of the last three years in the host country. They must be qualified to postgraduate studies, but the degree making them qualified must not be more than four years old. Please ask if you are unsure whether you fit the criteria as there are exceptions.
Hiring is administrated locally but coordinated between the three participating institutes. Applications and requests should be addressed to the individual institutes:
Robert J. Rutten in Utrecht: r.j.rutten at astro.uu.nl
Dan Kiselman in Stockholm: dan at astro.su.se (School Coordinator, takes general questions and accepts applications directed to more than one institute.)
Mats Carlsson in Oslo: mats.carlsson at astro.uio.no
An application should contain a CV, a fairly detailed account of undergraduate studies with proper explanations, a personal letter, and 2-3 letters of recommendation.
