The Turret Logs

The turret software has two logs, the operations log and the position log.

Information about every major action or error is stored in the operations log. It can be displayed in a dialog (available from the Window menu of the main window), but its contents are stored in a file, not in memory, to ensure that nothing will be lost in the event of a software crash.

User comments may be added to the log using the toolbar button at the top of the graphics dialog. This can be useful for noting weather conditions and for helping to coordinate observation data from other systems.

On exit from the software, the log is archived into logs/operations, under the turret home directory. The filename includes the date and time for easy reference. On start up, if an un-archived log is discovered (from a previous software crash), it will be archived before the creation of the next log. The date, however, will not be meaningful.

The position log holds crucial positional information and is updated every 30 seconds. Different information is stored depending on whether you are tracking a solar or non-solar target. There will be one position log for each day, even if the turret software has been run miltiple times (the file is appended). Position logs can be found in logs/position labelled with the day's date.
